MOTHER/LAND
This series of oil paintings is a personal reflection on my journey into motherhood, a transformation as profound as it is disorienting. Each painting focuses on the mother’s face—not in a traditional portraiture sense, but as a site of emergence, dissolution, and becoming. By distorting or abstracting the facial features, I honor the often-invisible shifts of identity that happen within a mother. The figures are not idealized or generalized archetypes—they are specific and sovereign. This work is a reclamation of the mother as an individual, not just in relation to her child, but as a whole self undergoing her own birth. It is a visual meditation on the deep, tender rupture of becoming someone new.
